The VTCT Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) is a qualification for those interested in a teaching career in further education or for those who have recently started teaching. This award is designed to equip a wide range of teachers/trainers and facilitators with the requisite skills and knowledge required to fulfil a teaching role.
During this course you will learn about preparation, planning and basic course design. You will also gain teaching delivery skills and participate in micro-teaching sessions. Evaluation skills and techniques also form part of the course content. This qualification provides a sound introduction to teaching/training and is suitable for both experienced practitioners who would like to secure a professionally recognised qualification as well as those new to teaching. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training will introduce you into a teaching role in further education and progress on to a broader teaching qualification.
How long is the course?
The course can be completed within 4-6 weeks.
All learners are required to deliver a ‘micro- teach’
You will be fully guided and supported when preparing the micro-teach.
One hour of micro-teaching must be carried out to achieve the qualification. This must include at least 15 minutes’ delivery which must be observed and assessed by your assessor. For the additional 45 minutes, you can either deliver additional micro-teaching sessions or observe the micro-teaching sessions of other learners.
The award is designed to develop the candidates’ ability to:
Identify students’ needs, backgrounds and aspirations
Define basic principles of teaching and learning in relation to teaching/training
Demonstrate in their planning, delivery and evaluation a regard for equal opportunities and health and safety legislation
Develop their skills in devising programmes and schemes of work
Adopt a systematic approach to planning learning sessions by reference to a variety of methods, and to develop innovation in their teaching/training
Design, make and use a range of teaching and learning materials, using their own creative and information technology skills
Develop their key skills
Apply communication skills in teaching and training
Design and apply appropriate means of assessing their own learners
Additional home study required.
